Sarasota County's Charter is our Constitution!
The Home Rule Charter of Sarasota County was initially established and voted upon by the voters of Sarasota County in 1971. The original Charter was replaced in 1980 and, since its adoption, has been modified through Charter Amendments 13 times by the voters of Sarasota County.
What is the Charter Review Board?
The Charter Review Board is the body of elected officials whose sole responsibility is to act as "custodians" of our Charter. They are charged with the responsibility of overseeing the Charter of Sarasota County and making recommendations to the County Commission - and the voters of Sarasota County - of changes that may improve our system of government.
