Born in 1958 in Batavia, NY (a small, conservative farming community), my
family was comprised entirely of registered Republicans.  Only recently did
I learn that my parents had voted Democratic ever since Nixon’s
resignation!

When I turned 18 in 1976, I registered for the first time as an Independent,
but cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter.  I have voted in every election
since then!

In 1979, I graduated with honors from Webber College, in Babson Park,
FL with an ABS degree in Business Management and moved to Sarasota
County.

In the 27 years that I have lived in this community, I have volunteered for
the following organizations:

  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Sarasota County Arts Council
  • Taste of Sarasota
  • Sarasota County Sheriff’s Department of Animal Services
  • Sarasota Comedy Festival
  • Metropolitan Community Church
  • Adopt-A-Road
  • Adopt-A-Shore
  • Sarasota in Defense of Animals (founding member and director)

From 1986-1990, I was employed by the Humane Society of Sarasota
County.  While employed by the Humane Society, I held the position of
Animal Cruelty Investigator for Sarasota County, by proclamation of the
Board of County Commissioners.

Since 1999, I have worked as a tax and audit computer software
technologist.  In October of 2001, my partner and I moved to South Venice
Beach, where we are very active in our community.

Currently, I belong to and serve the following organizations:

  • South Venice Civic Association (2-year Board Member)
  • South County Assembly of Neighborhoods (Steering Committee
    Member)
  • National Organization of Women (NOW) Venice/North Port Chapter
  • Democratic Executive Committee of Sarasota County
  • Venice Area Democratic Club (2-year Board Member)
  • Suncoast Stonewall Democrats (Founder and Acting President)
  • Captain of the Precinct 52 Democrats
